We spent our afternoon at Larry's parents and had a terrific time. The weather could not have been more perfect as a goodbye to summer. Not too hot, not too cold... just right with a light breeze. The visiting is always the best part. I even ate very healthy and was quite pleased with myself, after all it was a homemade peach ice-cream kind of day : )

July 4
Some of the family started celebrating the fourth before the rest with an early morning trip to watch the hot air balloons take off. The rest of us started making breakfast and by the time they got home, Conrad was just in time to flip some pancakes. He is delighted to cook anything : ) Later, we went swimming and BBQing at Larry's Mom and Dads, then back home for our street fireworks, which is always fun with the neighbors. It was a great day to celebrate America and be together.

Memorial Day
Memorial Day brought us to a BBQ over at Brent and Carolyn's. Betty and Joe's pool is getting re-tiled and won't be ready for swimming for another week. But today isn't about swimming or shopping good sales. Right now, the VA Hospitals are under a huge scandal of falsifying the wait time records of our vets. Many have died waiting, some have killed themselves waiting too long. To think there are people that have lied about these things to get a bonus is heartbreaking. I have lost faith and trust in our government. I know these things have gone on for years, but all seems worse under Obama. I pray that we can elect someone that can inspire us and lead the way to make America strong again. Someone who cannot have a political agenda, but serves the people. I think most of our leaders forget who they are serving. Someone who can pull everyone together, so we can move forward as a country. We have to bring God back, without Him, we are nothing.
Today we had a good time and played SPUD and Joe made homemade chocolate-chocolate chip ice cream (Best in the World btw). Phoebe found an instant friend with David and Natalie's dog and she never let go of her. When the dog was so tired and would just lay there, Phoebe would snuggle up to her and wait until she was ready to go again. This is the kind of dog you dream of for your kids. It was nice just being with family and our thoughts are still very much with Kathy & Mike and his scalp surgeries.

Easter Sunday
Larry's Mom and Dad came over to share our Easter dinner with us... Tostados. We used to have them every Easter with my family and the kids have missed the Tostado's through the years... so this year they (especially Katie) got their wish. Not traditional, but very yummy! We always love when Larry's Mom and Dad come for dinner and a visit. I keep a tripod handy for a quick picture... a gift I got from Betty and Joe years ago and have enjoyed so much!

Easter Egg Hunt
Kelsie and Josh invited us to their place for our Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday. We packed our lunches and rode our bikes over... it was a perfect sunny day. We still hunt the old fashion way... hard boiled eggs. Yep. No nice plastic eggs with candy for us. By the time the eggs pass through the hands of the grandkids, there isn't one unbroken egg to be found. This year they sat in a group and started picking at them and eating the insides, sometimes feeding them to each other. Kind of gross, but interesting at the same time. I was pondering for days after that we should maybe start an egg hunt with plastic eggs, but everyone seems fine keeping it simple and hardboiled. Then we played Ultimate Frisbee behind their house. We had a great time. Thank you Kelsie and Josh!
