smashed finger

Hmmm. What to do? I slammed my thumb in the door jam during the last couple of days of the cruise. Smashed the tip flat. I whimpered in pain and then said the same swear word over and over again. I think God is used to that word, I would imagine he hears it an awful lot. As much as it hurt then, it started throbbing badly as time went by. I went down to sick bay and they said there was nothing they could do for me. Nothing. By then, I had to hold it up high and not touch anything or it was unbearable. When I got home, I googled smashed fingernail and they showed me how to get a paper clip red hot and press it on my nail to create a hole to release the pressure. Desperate measures are sometimes needed. Once I did that,  everything literally exploded out of it and it immediately felt much better. Pretty cool actually huh? I now have 7 holes in my nail as it keeps refilling, but I am on the mend. It sounds gross I know, but it was quite fascinating to learn how to fix a smashed nail should it ever happen again. My services are here for you, should you ever need them :)

Ouch, my poor sister...that thumb looks yucky! I'm so sorry this happened and especially on your cruise. I'm surprised no one in sick bay knew how to relieve the pressure. Good thing for Google. The way you did it sounds better than a drill...seven times no less. You were so brave or so desperate for relief!

When I was about 5 I had my thumb smashed in the car door. Mom took me to the doctor the next day and that is exactly what the doctor did. It was horrid! Then a couple days later, the pressure built back up and so my parents did the paper clip treatment to me. I can still remember the terror I felt. Glad you're on the mend!
